The Wheels Project Ltd

The Wheels Project is a small, high-impact charity working with around 130 young people annually from most deprived areas in the West of England.

Wheels have over 30 years’ experience of working with young people who are already, or who are at risk of, becoming NEET. Aged 14-19, most are living in deprived areas, some are teenage parents, some are in care, most have special educational needs, many are at risk of drifting into crime and most are exhibiting behavioural challenges.

Average outcomes over the past 10 years include:
• Participation – 100% getting engaged, asking questions and listening
• Attendance – at least 85%
• Improved behaviour and attitudes – 85%
• Improved life and social skills, e.g. teamwork, communication and language – 85%
• Improved basic skills in use of tools, re-assembling, servicing, changing wheels, tyres etc. – 85%
• Improved self-esteem and confidence – 85%
• Progression to our Community Vehicle Programme – 75%
• And for those completing our Community Vehicle Programme, 80% reengage with their studies at school, gain a college place or job within 6-12 months.

The Wheels Project has created courses in the recent past for Creative Youth Network. These relate to referring young people onto a range of courses.
