Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire

The key aims of Citizens Advice are:
• To provide the advice our people need for the problems they face
• To improve the policies and practices that affect our people’s lives.

We provide a holistic and client focused advice for all residents of our region in benefits, debt, housing, employment, consumer, family, discrimination and community care. This proposal is to offer the services of our teams of advisors based in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

We propose that the administration for service provided to the West of England Works Project should be undertaken by South Gloucestershire Citizens Advice who will co-ordinate with our offices across the region. This will simplify the administration for you to reduce your workload and internal costs whilst giving your clients the benefit of service at one of our offices close to them.
All our advisers are trained and accredited to the national Citizen Advice standard. Our advisers have knowledge to specialise in dealing with particular areas of concern for example debt or welfare benefits. As part of our service, we would offer you summary reports extracted from the data showing what has been achieved and trends in service provision.

We have developed a reliable, client focussed system for that vital initial interview, which can take place either face to face or over the phone. This ensures that we are able to re-assure clients and signpost them to specialist advisers, such as for debt or welfare benefits, if appropriate. We would be happy to discuss this holistic approach with you as it may be helpful as your develop your tools in this area.

This project can take place face to face, or over the phone and we seek to help the client understand their financial matters by explaining the vocabulary and the documents they have. We also help the participants by exploring opportunities for chances to save money for the client or to improve service. This might, for example, include reviewing the energy tariffs that are being paid and investigating alternatives.
