Bath College is a Further Education provider with a focus on talent, career and personal development. The Adult Community Learning (ACL) Department within the College focusses on the provision of educational opportunities for adults who are 19yrs+ across the county.
Bath College ACL provides a wide range of courses intended for those who want to improve their chances to find work, support their families or live independently. Courses are designed in conjunction with local partners or in response to local demand and target learners who are at a distance from education or employment. Courses include engagement activities, core skills development (English, maths, ICT), vocational training and employability skills.
Please note that there is a full cost recovery offer within the ‘Love to Learn’ programme which sits independently of the ACL Department. All ACL provision is fully Ofsted compliant within ESFA performance management regulations.
We offer several services which are on offer to the West of England partners: English/Maths pre-entry, ICT Skills Development and ‘Roots to Work’ – Project based skills development.
English/maths (pre-entry up to Level 2)
Regulated qualifications for learners who are working between pre-entry level to a full Level 2 in English and/or maths. Modular assessment process allowing learners to build up to a full level of qualification over a suitable timeframe tailored to the individual.
Initial assessment feeds into small, supported groups operating at a similar level and quality assured by both IV and EV input from awarding body.
Cost: There is no cost to learners who have yet to attain a GCSE grade ‘C’ or higher.
ICT skills development
Skills for life and for the workplace provided through non-regulated course provision tailored in response to local demand (e.g. needs identified by groups including AgeUK and JobCentrePlus). Short courses range from general digital literacy such as e-safety, introduction to iPads to work focussed skills including MS Office workshops. ESFA compliant within RARPA framework.
Cost: There is no cost to learners in line with ESFA eligibility.
‘Roots to Work’ – Project based skills development.
Roots to Work is run in collaboration with Bath City Farm to provide a group of learners with improved confidence and competence in their daily lives and to improve their employability. Learners will spend 2 days a week on a ‘grow to sell’ enterprise project combining practical skills with classroom sessions around horticulture, communication, literacy, numeracy, ICT, marketing, research and customer service.
The project gives learners experiences which can be drawn upon in interview and culminates in a public sale followed by a presentation session. Expert tuition is enhanced by external speakers and site visit to a local garden centre.
Learners completing the course will receive a College Certificate and the course is compliant with Bath College’s Quality Assurance process and ESFA performance management rules.
Cost: Based on 17 sessions over a 9 week period engaging 10 – 12 learners there is a cost of £134 per person.
